Seattle couch disposal
How to Get Rid of an Old Couch in Seattle
Compare City pickup, self-haul, reuse, and full-service removal before moving a heavy sofa to the curb.
Your options and next steps
Choose the right way to get the couch out.
Use the official option for your address, or compare hauling help against the full scope and access.
- 01
Compare the available paths
Seattle Public Utilities lists special-item pickup for qualifying residential items. Self-haul, reuse, and full-service removal are different options with different labor, access, and acceptance rules.
- 02
Show the full couch
Photograph the front, back, cushions, labels, and any damage. State whether it is a sectional, sleeper, recliner, or unusually dense piece.
- 03
Measure the route
Check the couch, doorways, stair turns, elevator, hallways, gates, and the nearest workable loading point. Include the path—not only the item—in the request.
- 04
Disclose condition before anyone handles it
Call out moisture, smoke damage, pests, sharp hardware, broken mechanisms, or contamination. Condition can change whether reuse or ordinary handling is possible.
Before you choose
Details that can change the plan.
Flag these points early so a public disposal option or an independent provider is evaluated from the real scope.
- Sleeper sofas and reclining sections can be much heavier than they look
- A donation center decides what it will accept; donation is never guaranteed
- Building, elevator, and loading-area rules may control the pickup time
- Do not leave upholstered furniture outside where rain can change its condition and weight

Straight answers
Before you request.
Do I have to move the couch outside?
Not for a full-service request. Show its current location and the complete removal path so provider capability and access can be reviewed first.
Can JunkSEA promise the couch will be donated?
No. Reuse depends on condition, current facility acceptance, provider routing, and capacity. The provider can only confirm the available path for the actual item.
Can photos provide the final price?
Photos can support planning and a preliminary range. The exact onsite scope and price must be approved before loading begins.
