Seattle appliance disposal
Seattle Appliance Disposal & Removal Guide
A practical checklist for refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, ranges, and other appliances that need more than a generic junk request.
Your options and next steps
Identify the appliance before choosing the route.
Use the official option for your address, or compare hauling help against the full scope and access.
- 01
Name the exact appliance
List the type, quantity, approximate dimensions, model when available, and whether it contains refrigerant, water, gas, oil, or a battery.
- 02
Settle disconnection first
State whether power, gas, water, drains, vents, mounting hardware, and hard-plumbed connections are safely disconnected. Do not assume trade work is part of removal.
- 03
Measure every tight point
Show stairs, doors, landings, elevator dimensions, countertop or cabinet clearance, and the path to the loading position.
- 04
Check the current official route
Seattle Public Utilities publishes item-specific pickup and disposal guidance. Confirm the exact appliance and current rules before selecting curb pickup, self-haul, or full-service removal.
Before you choose
Details that can change the plan.
Flag these points early so a public disposal option or an independent provider is evaluated from the real scope.
- Refrigerators, freezers, and cooling equipment can require refrigerant handling
- Gas, water, or electrical disconnection may require a qualified trade
- Commercial appliances can follow different facility rules from household appliances
- Built-in, stacked, or unusually heavy equipment needs advance provider review

Straight answers
Before you request.
Does JunkSEA disconnect appliances?
Do not assume disconnection is included. Describe the current utility and mounting connections so the request can be reviewed accurately.
Can a refrigerator be requested with other junk?
It can be disclosed in the same request, but specialty handling and the provider’s capability must be reviewed before acceptance.
Should I move the appliance to the curb first?
Not for a full-service request. Leave it safely in place until the access, disconnection, and handling plan are confirmed.
